Sony STP-GB1AM Battery Grip Review

Sony STP-GB1AM

First impressions are that it’s quite expensive and although there are cheaper alternatives I opted for the Sony product as they are usually of a very good quality (after all they do make the A300).

Inside the box it comes with a manual and the strap. It feels good quality wise. The inside is lined with a suede type leather which is comfortable and has some padding in it. It also includes a small metal clip at the top of the hand strap for attaching to the neck strap if you prefer to carry it like this.

The bottom attachment is very well constructed and feels very sturdy. You won’t worry about scratching the bottom of the a300 camera. The grip is also adjustable for some help balancing (If you place it on a table). Underneath of the bottom attachment it has a well constructed tripod mount which is as sturdy as the camera itself.

Overall size, it is pretty much perfect. It’s not too big and not too small. When holding the grip, It feels sturdy and you won’t be worried about it breaking or anything of that nature! When fitting it to your hand make sure your pressing the shutter button, so you know you can reach it comfortably.

Overall it is well built, you can also quickly attach it to the neck strap without taking it off which is handy!. For some low shots the neck strap does come in handy (to give you confidence that you not going to drop it….in a river). It’s a very nice alternative to the neck strap and it works very well! If you are looking for a hand grip you wont go far wrong with purchasing the STP-GB1AM.

Price: 3 out of 5
Usefulness: 4 out 5
Build Quality: 5 out of 5

Overall: 4 out of 5.
